Sony Playstation 3 Sales Double Worldwide
30 Jul 08
Sales of the PS3 console have surged in the quarter April - June 2008 compared with that of the same quarter in 2007. Figures equated to a massive 1.56 million PS3 sales this year, more than double the sales last year of 700,000. Sony has sold 14 million PS3 consoles since launch and has set a sales target for the console at 150 million total sales by next March.
Sony has also seen software sales up by 18.1 million, helped by smash hit games like GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid.
To add to this, the PSP console sales were also up with figures reaching 3.2 million in the same 3 month period, compared with its 2007 results of 2.13 million. PSP game sales also showed a heavy upward trend as figures equated to 11.8 million, a huge jump from 2007's figures of 2 million. Sony has predicted its PSP sales to amount to 15 million during this financial year.
So far, 2008 has shaped up to be a good year for Sony considering the stiff competition from Nintendo's latest console, the Wii and Microsoft's Xbox 360 with its popular Xbox live service.
