So what do we think of Sony's new 40GB playstation 3 console?

Being the most expensive console on the market the Playstation 3 or PS3 as it's known, the price reduction definately makes it a more affordable next generation video games console. The new lower price also gives the PS3 a more competitive edge against Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. The price reduction did however, reflect the changes that had been made and was a result of cheaper production costs. The previous 60GB of storage space was reduced to 40GB and this was the most major change that had been made. In our opinion this is still a respectable amount of storage space. Four USB ports have been reduced two on the 40GB PS3 which for most would be enough but can be configured for those who need more with multi USB port adapters. The 40GB version has lost some backwards compatibility also in the fact that you will no longer be able to play PS2 games but will still be compatible with PS1 games. There is no multi memory card port but this can also be configured with multi portable devices that fit into a USB slot, although these will need to be purchased separatley.
Overall we think Sony have delivered a better value PS3 console, being much more affordable and still with a decent amount of storage space. The reduction of USB ports and the loss of the memory card port can be configured if needed, so giving people this option and not taking it away completley is a plus point. For those who still wish to play their PS2 games, the loss of compatiblilty here may be a down point.
On the whole we would give the new Playstation 3 console the thumbs up!
